1. Do you play music or write poetry? If so, why do you do it? If not, would you like to try?

2. Do poetry and music make a difference in the world? How?

3. Has poetry or music made a difference in your life? How?

4. Do you think that poets and musicians are “born” or “made?” Explain why you believe the way you do.

5. Describe how you felt when you 1) listened to Rich’s poem or 2) listened to the banjo music.

6. Rich and Scruggs will be remembered not only for the art/music they created but for the way they touched other people. What do you hope to be remembered for?

Now, let’s look at two contrasting images involving water. Have a look, then consider the following questions:

http://life.time.com/culture/in-praise-of-water/#4

1.Describe what you see in these two photos.

2. What do these two photos say about the world we live in?

3. What does the phrase “accident of birth” mean?

4. Describe a day in the life of each of these children.

5. For all their differences, what do these two children share in common?

*****************************************

life:

Happy Water Day, World!

We drink it. We swim in it. We inhale it with the air we breathe, and exhale it when we sleep, when we talk, when we laugh, when we stand outside on a cold night watching the stars, our breath made visible. We sail on it, ski on it and whitewater raft on it. We are, to a large extent, made of it.

On World Water Day, we pay tribute to the most wondrous of all elements — the poetically named dihydrogen monoxide.

Have you witnessed or personally experienced racism in your life?

What can you do personally to help improve race relations in your community?

Do you think this is a productive way to present Web resources? For the conference attendee? For the presenter?
